Abstract: The study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of cognitive behavioural counselling program in the development of social skills in children with inattention deficit hyperactivity symptoms (ADHD). The sample consisted of 54 students, they were divided into a control and experimental groups, the experimental group of 25 child, their ages ranged between 8 and 12 years. Some scales were used: 1- Vanderbilt ADHD Scale (Teacher form) to identify children with ADHD symptoms prior to the program, 2- ADHD Rating Scale (Teacher form), 3- Social Skills Improvement System SSIS. Pre-tests were applied to to the experimental group In 12 sessions (two sessions per week, 30 minutes for each one). Post tests were applied for the two groups except Vanderbilt ADHD Scale. Results showed no significant differences between the two groups regarding social skills in pre tests, where as there were Significant differences between the two groups regarding social skills in the posts test. significant differences were also found between experimental group social skills mean score in pre and post tests, indicating the effectiveness of the program. By and large, results indicated that training children with ADHD symptoms on social interaction skills regularly by psychologists and teachers during school activities will promote their mental health and well being levels.
