Bioremediation is considered one of the most suitable solutions for such pollution. Effective bioremediation requires the continuous monitoring of different factors affecting the activity of the indigenous microbiota such as nutrients, water content and presence of toxic compounds. Heavy metals that are considered major constrain to crude oil bioremediation can be found at elevated levels in crude-oil contaminated sites and roadside soils. Thus, in the present study, the effects of lead on the bioremediation of crude oil and on the structure of soil bacterial community were investigated. Results of the current study showed the presence of varying concentrations of heavy metals in Kuwaiti soils selected adapted bacteria that dominated soil samples and showed the potential to tolerate varying concentrations of heavy metals in particular lead. Investigation of the effects of salinity and temperature on the activity of crude oil-degrading bacteria in soil showed the inefficiency of crude oil bioremediation at high levels of salinity and low temperatures. However, based on the concentration of lead and salinity determined in collected soils, the bioremediation of potential crude oil pollution in Kuwait desert soil could be an efficient technology to clean crude oil pollution under moderate temperatures and salinity.||URI:||http://hdl.handle.net/123456789/251|
